Borrowing Policies

SHFL is a member of the Ramapo Catskill Library System.  An active RCLS library card is necessary to borrow items from the library.

If you live in the Town of Highland or the Town of Lumberland, you may apply for a free library card at our library with I.D. showing proof of residency OR I.D. and separate proof of residency.   Non residents may apply for a library card for an annual fee of $20.00. I.D. is required. The annual fee will be waived for anyone who donates $100 or more to the library. Our library card is accepted at all 47 libraries in RCLS.

Loan Periods / Fine Rates/Charges
Library accounts with a balance of $10.00 or more will be blocked (suspended).
Library accounts with items that are overdue more than 30 days cannot be used to checkout additional items.

Books — 14 day loan — no fines
DVDs — 7 day loan — $1.00 per day/cannot be renewed
Audio Books — 14 day loan — no fines
Magazines — 14 day loan — no fines
Childrens books — 14 day loan no fines

Museum Pass – 3 day loan – $10.00 fine per day

Lost books – Cost of replacement is set by the owning library

Damaged books – Cost of repair or replacement is set by the owning library

Lost library card – Replacement $5.00
